Which identifies an instance of irony in "The Convict and the Bishop"?

The residents of the village are unwilling to welcome Valjean, a former prisoner, for the night.

Madame Magloire distrusts Valjean, even though the bishop tells her she must.

Jean Valjean experiences an internal conflict over how to handle the bishop's kindness.

When the police bring Valjean to the bishop's house, he gives Valjean the candlesticks to match the plates he stole.

Maybe the last one because the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” ... a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.
