because the white sheets represents what the kkk is for they only support white rights and that is it that is why they wear white sheets. also so no one knows they are apart of the kkk that way they can hear things happening and plan some bad things without getting caught

they hid thee faces i guess because they didnt want anyone or (any black or black caring person) to see them also it could be a resemblence of there klan
