Being that Ali follows the Islamic faith, if he is hospitalized, he would most likely refuse any medication that is considered to be intoxicating or narcotic because anything that contains alcohol and narcotics are haram (taboo) according to the Qur'an.
He would likely also reject any medication that contains pork products or blood, because according to the Qu'ran, ingesting pork or blood is also not acceptable. Muslims may however, have blood transfusions; the only restrictions is on ingesting blood products.
