First, let's observe our equation, there is an absolute value (|x|) that means 'x' will have two answers most likely positive and negative.

First we will take off the lines.

now we have

2-2x=14

next minus 2 out of both side of the equation

2 - 2 -2x = 14- 2

-2x =12

now we will divide -2 from both side of the equation


( - 2x = 12)/( - 2)

we will cancel out - 2


(x = - 6)/(1)

x= -6

We aren't done yet since this is an absolute value we have to convert the sum of the equation ( 14) to negatives now which will be in this case (-14)

your new equation will look like this

2-2x= -14

next minus 2 out of both side of the equation

2 - 2 -2x = -14- 2

-2x = - 16

now we will divide -2 from both side of the equation


( - 2x = - 16)/( - 2)

we will cancel out - 2
