A vendor sells pretzels and drinks at a corner stand. He charges $2.25 for a pretzel and $1.50 for a drink. One day, the vendor made a total of $463.50 by selling a total of 257 items.

For this case, the first thing we must do is define variables:
p: number of pretzels
d: number of drinks
We now write the system of equations:
2.25p + 1.50d = 463.50
p + d = 257
Solving the system we have:
d = 153
p = 104
Answer:
104 pretzels
153 drinks
