In ancient times, the Rainbow Crow was the most beautiful creature, a bird with rainbow feathers which was also a splendid singer and enchanted all animals, good and bad. One night, Rainbow Crow met other animals in November, worried about the severity of the approaching winter. Rainbow Crow said that the Great Sky Spirit had invented fire to keep them warm. Although others doubted him, they were convinced by his conviction and confidence. When he volunteered to fly to the kingdom of the Great Sky Spirit and return with some fire, the animals cheered for their champion. Rainbow Crow flew until exhaustion. Just before giving up, he saw the lands of the Great Sky Spirit. After learning of the animals’ plight, the Spirit lit a torch from his fire and then gave it to Crow, warning him of the sacrifice required to carry it, which the Crow accepted bravely. The Crow held the torch in his beak getting burned and irritated by it, affecting his lungs and mouth. He managed to take off and return to Earth. By the time he returned, his wings had been burned black, and he could not sing anymore because of the smoke in his lungs. Now he was a regular crow, but never regretted his decision and felt proud for helping his friends. It was worth it for him when he saw his friends getting warm in the cold winter. His black feathers and rough voice were now a symbol of his sacrifice.
