In a well-written personal statement, the writer’s word choice will help the writer to convey tone, meaning, and theme. A personal statement is like a short reflective essay explaining why the person is the perfect candidate for the undergraduate degree course the person is applying to. The structure is:
- Introduction: why you want to study this course at university.
- Section one: academics – specifically subjects that are relevant to the course/subject you’re applying to
- Section two: interest in and engagement with your subject beyond the classroom
- Section three: relevant work experience
- Section four: hobbies and interests
- Conclusion
