add ∠1 and ∠2 and set them equal to 180, since they create a straight line, and solve for x.

4x + 16 + 2x - 10 = 180
6x + 6 = 180
6x = 174
x = 29

Now find ∠1 by using 29 for x.

4(29) + 16 = 132°

2)

First find the angle that is in the middle of 40° and 50°. Let that angle be y.

40 + 60 + y = 180
100 + y = 180
y = 80

Now we can see that ∠x has the measure of 40 + y.

40 + 80 = 120°
