In the play Trifles, what tone is likely revealed by the following stage directions? [With a sigh, (Mrs. Hale) is about to sit down in the rocking-chair. Before she is seated realizes what chair it is; with a slow look at it, steps back. The chair which she has touched rocks back and forth.]

tense

The tone revealed through this stage direction is tense; Mrs Hale is clearly worried, sad, or upset about something, as she sighs which shows that emotion. Also, seeing the chair clearly evokes some sort of memory or fear from her, so there's a tension when she steps away from it and it rocks back and forth.
