Thermal expansion is the response to a change in temperature in which matter changes in volume. During this process, the density of a substance undergoing thermal expansion

The temperature of the substance increases,
then the substance's particles move faster and apart because of Kinetic Energy as space between increases, the substance expands then causes an increase in volume.
