B. Situation. A five-year-old child has been in a terrible car accident. To
give her a chance to live, the girl's physician must give her an imme-
diate blood transfusion. However, both of the child's parents belong
to a religion that forbids members from receiving blood transfusions,
even in a life-or-death situation. With their strong religious beliefs, the
parents refuse to give permission for a transfusion.
