A combination of the 2 medications aminoglycoside and cephalosporin is needed for initial treatment for a gram-negative bacteria infection. The restrictions of the 2 is first would be hypersensitivity to any of the 2 drugs and if there would be possible synergistic nephrotoxicity. This means the kidneys will be toxified like it cannot function properly due to the 2 drugs being combined.
