7x-40 represents the central angle, the arc 3x+80 equals the central angle, it is the same, so 7x-40=3x+80. 7x-3x=80+40. 4x=120. X=30. Let’s plug it in. This can be a way to check the answer. We get: angle=170 and arc=170. So x=30 is correct.

since they are both degrees of an angle they would be equal:
3x+80 = 7x-40
80 = 4x-40
120 = 4x
x = 120/4 = 30 degrees
