to find x, we need to figure out what side a(8in) + side b(12in)

8+12=20. what we need to be is 32 because 32 is half of 64, and we did half of the perimeter by only adding side b to side a, instead of adding them both twice.

the distance from 20 to 32 is 12.

x=6 because you have to add 6 to side b, and side a, and you will get 14in and 18in. 14+18=32

the reason i said, "the distance from 20 to 32 is 12." is because if you divide it by 2, you get the answer. this works is because we are dividing into two sides, like i said, so 12/2=answer
