She should have trusted the young man instead of acting selfishly because she did not want him to court the other woman behind the door because she was jealous of her beauty. Her semi-barbaric temperament causes her to lose focus, become worried, suspicious, and dominated, causing envy to take over, and she should have been willing to risk her own happiness to save his life if she genuinely loved him.
