A. Simile. When comparing two objects and (commonly) using the [object] was/is as [descriptive adjective] [object] format, the sentence is a simile. Example: The potato was as smooth as a tabletop. "potato" is the object/noun you are comparing to a tabletop. "smooth" is the adjective you are using to show similarities between the tabletop and the potato.
