1) Over 1,000 people tried out for a spot on the new reality television show; nevertheless, many of the contestants stood in line for over ten hours waiting for their turn Fill in the blank with the appropriate transition word(s).

The blank in the sentence implied a contrast. We can see that because the two statements above in the sentence were meant to contradict each other with the signal words "over 1,000 people tried....______ many of the contestants...." The words but, or however would have suited the blank just nicely, however, nevertheless is a synonym of the two.

2) imploreingly. It was said in the question you had provided that " -ploring," does not contain an 'e'. Thus, Impolreingly is the correct answer.

3) Later, John and I went out to the woods to collect some firewood. We came back to the site, and started a campfire.

But implies contrast. Contrast doesn't make sense in this situation. If only implies contrast/contradiction also. Because applies as well. So, B is your answer.

4)
The students are expected to wear appropriate clothing to the dance.

5)
pneumococcal diseases

6) None of the above. You either forgot to paste some of the question or, you forgot to paste some of the options.
