A copy of the cell’s DNA is made during the synthesis, or S phase. Growth also occurs during the second growth phase, or G2. Mitosis is the phase when the cell actually divides into two cells, known as daughter cells.

Hello kiddio!

DNA occurs during the S phase of interphase, sandwiched between the G1 and G2phases. The cell uses checkpoint signals to ensure at the end of G1 that it is big enough to replicate and at the end of G2 to determine whether or not DNA replication has succeeded.
