Andrei weighs 32 kg, which is 4/7 of the weight of his older sister and 2/5 of the weight of his father. The mother’s weight is 7/8 of the father’s weight. Can they all, together, go into an elevator that can hold 300 kg if they also have to take their 17 kg dog?

Answer:

Yes.

Explanation:

Andrei weighs 32 kg. This is 4/7 of his sister's weight; this means his sister weighs

7/4(32) = 56 kg.

32 kg is 2/5 of his father's weight; this means his father weighs

5/2(32) = 80 kg.

His mother weighs 7/8 of his father's weight; this means his mother weighs

7/8(80) = 70 kg.

Together they weigh

32+56+80+70 = 238.

With his dog, they weigh

238+17 = 255 kg.

This means they can all go into the elevator.
