Were the first organisms aerobic or anaerobic? what evidence helped you choose your anser? composition of early atmosphere

The first organisms were anaerobic because there was virtually no oxygen in the Earth's atmosphere. However through photosynthesis of these anaerobic bacteria, the atmosphere eventually became oxygen-rich.
