The price wihtout tax is:

$12 + $26 + $125 = $163

Now, the tax rate was 5.6%, this means that there is a 5.6% of the $163 wich is added as tax:

When you want to calculate the percent of a number, you need to multiply the number by the decimal form of such percent (wich is calculated as the percent divided by 100%)

in this case we have:

(5.6%/100%) = 0.056

and then:

0.056*$163 = $9.128

So the total price is P = $163 + $9.128 = $172.128

$12+$26+$125 = $163 total purchases without tax

163*0.056 = 9.128 tax based on how much she bought
