When energy is released by combining two elements to make a bigger one, we have fission. this is the answer. fusion is what happens at the core of the sun. we do not currently have reactors that undergo fusion at high efficiency, as far as I know.

Answer: Fusion

Explanation: -

_(94)^(239)\textrm{Pu}+_2^4\textrm{He}\rightarrow _(96)^(242)Y+_0^\textrm{n}

Nuclear fusion is a process which involves the conversion of two small nuclei to form a heavy nuclei along with release of energy.

Nuclear fission is a process which involves the conversion of a heavier nuclei into two or more small and stable nuclei along with the release of energy.

Thus in the given reaction as the a heavier nuclei curium is being formed from combination of plutonium and helium, this is a nuclear fusion reaction.
