The scatter plot shows the number of visitors to a beach and the high temperature for 25 days. To understand the trend of the data, does it make sense to connect all of the data points? What could you do to the graph to represent the general trend of the data? Why?

Answer:

You need to look for the overall pattern in the data; I could represent the data by putting the number of dots on either side approximately the same, so it would be easier finding the trend of the scatter plot.

No, you don't connect all of the points in a scatter plot to understand the trend in the data.

When you are looking at a scatter plot, you just look for the overall pattern in the data. Are the points moving up or down? Are the points in a linear or non-linear pattern?

You don't have to connect all of the points.
