Explanation:

Around June 23, Summer Solstice for Northern Hemisphere occurs. The Sun crosses the Tropic of Cancer. It means that Northern hemisphere would have more direct sunlight and thus, would have summers. On the other hand, southern hemisphere would have sun light falling obliquely and hence, winters would occur there.

During winter solstice (around Dec 22), Southern hemisphere receives more direct sunlight. During Spring and Autumn equinox, Sun passes directly over celestial equator and thus, equator receives direct sunlight. The sun rays directly fall in between tropic of cancer and tropic of Capricorn. Thus, polar regions never receive direct sunlight.
