6/9 first change 1/3 to 3/9 by multiplying then numerator and denominator of 1/3 by 3, then add 3/9+3/9 to get 6/9

3/9 = 3/9
1/3 = 3/9

3/9 + 3/9 = 6/9.

6/9 simplified = 2/3.

3/9 + 1/3 = 2/3
