The Ogallala aquifer is a shallow water table aquifer and it’s located beneath the Great Plains in the United States. It’s one of the world’s largest aquifers and it was named by geologist N. H. Darton from its type locality near the town of Ogallala, Nebraska. It’s part of the High Plains Aquifer System and it rests on the Ogallala Formation.
