The top of a swimming pool is in the shape of a rectangle measuring 44 feet by 24 feet. Two of the sides of the pool are trapezoids. The water is 9 feet deep in the deep end and 3 feet deep in the shallow end. 1. Find the volume of the water in the pool.

To find the volume of water in the pool, you can find the volume of the entire pool at 9 feet deep.

V = lwh
44 x 24 x 9
V = 9504 ft.³.

Half of the pool has a depth of 9ft, so divide 9504 ft.³ by two.

4752 cubic feet is the volume of half the pool that is deep.

Because the shallow end is only 3 feet deep, that is 1/3 of the volume of the half that is 9 feet deep.

4752 cubic feet/3 = 1584 cubic feet for the volume of the shallow end.

1584 ft.³ +4752 ft.³ = 6336 ft.³
