The population of Linton is 12 times as great as the population off Elmore. the combined population of both town is 9646 people. what is the population of Linton?

If p is the population of Linton, then 12p=population of Elmore.

Then the combined populations of the two is
p+12p=9646 or
13p=9646

Then you divide both sides by 13 to get
p=742
So the population of Linton is 742
