Seaweeds such as kelp are a potentially renewable source of biofuels for both electric power generation and as a replacement for petroleum-based products. Which of the following is a potential issue that could change this potentially renewable resource into a nonrenewable one?

- A kelp forest could become too plentiful and expand out of the forest boundaries.
- Kelp might not be able to produce enough foliage for biomass demand.
- The kelp might not be able to replenish fast enough once depleted.
- A kelp forest could produce too much oxygen for the environment to process.

I believe the correct answer is C., with such a large demand for fossil fuels and biofuels even large quantities of kelp wouldn't be able to keep up with the supply and demand.

Answer: The kelp might not be able to replenish fast enough once depleted.

Explanation:The kelp is a brown algae that grows as a seaweed. Renewable resources are those resources which can be replenished once used. Non renewable resources are those resources which cannot be replenished once used. According to the given situation, although kelp can be used as renewable biofuel. But with the increase in demand in future, more quantity of the kelp will be required to produce the fuel. This will lead to the extinction of majority of colonies of species. The decrease in abundance of species may not be resustain in future.
