The Cherokee people were forced to move to Oklahoma after the implementation of the Indian Removal Act. This law, passed by President Andrew Jackson, caused thousands of Cherokee Indians to leave their homeland in Georgia. This forced removal lead to the Trail of Tears. The Trail of Tears described the process of moving from Georgia all the way to Oklahoma. This was a sad event for Cherokees, as thousands of them died from hunger, disease, and exhaustion.
