Read this dialogue from William Shakespeare's play Much Ado About Nothing.

Beatrice
[Coming forward]
What fire is in mine ears? Can this be true?
Stand I condemn'd for pride and scorn so much?
Contempt, farewell! and maiden pride, adieu!
No glory lives behind the back of such.

It is formal dialogue because of the use of formal expressions .Beatrice is that sort of character who, even if angry or enthusiastic, uses formal language to show who she is .It is written in iambic parameter. This form is usual in Shakespeare. It contains a line of verse in five metrical feet, as it is the definition, consistin of one short stressed syllable followed by a long stressed one
