Gatsby had put a lot of thought into how he wanted the meeting with Daisy to go so he did everything in his power to make it as perfect and Grand as Daisy herself in his eyes. Including his appearence wanting to make amends for the pain and lost time.
When Daisy does arrive he finds himself panicking knowing the woman he was deeply in love with and whom had married another man was about to see him for the first time in years.
