Read the paraphrase. (1) To our ancestors, the vastness of the Earth was a dominant fact controlling their thoughts and lives. (2) In earlier ages, no one could see beyond a fraction of its immensity. (3) A few hundred miles was infinity. (4) Parents waved farewell to their emigrating children, never to see them again. Which sentence in the paraphrase from “We’ll Never Conquer Space” by Arthur C. Clarke is the paragraph’s topic sentence?
