George is trying to create a rectangular box with a square base to ship his product in. He wants it to enclose the maximum volume but he only has 56 square feet of material to use. In order to find the dimensions he sets up two equations:

V = yx2
2x2 + 4xy = 56

What does the 4 in the second equation mean?

A)
The volume of the box.

B)
The number of faces the box has.

C)
The number of bases the box has.

D)
The total amount of material he can use to create the box.

Answer B

the equation 2x^2 + 4xy = 56 is the equation to calculate area of the box

2x^2 represent the area of square base and top

as the box is rectangular 4xy represent the rectangular lateral faces of the box.

so, 4 represents the number of faces the box has
