if you notice, the pyramid has a squarish base of 6x6, and 4 triangular faces, each face has a base of 6, and a height of 17.

we simply get the area of the squarish base and the area of all 4 triangular faces and sum them up, and that's the total surface area of the pyramid.

\bf \stackrel{square's~area}{(6\cdot 6)}~~+~~\stackrel{triangle's~area}{4\left[ \cfrac{1}{2}(6)(17) \right]}
