Thank to Dante and his Divine Comedy, the Tuscan language became the official, established Italian language. Divine Comedy was written not in Latin but in the Tuscan language, the language of the people. This was a major thing back in the day as it allowed people who did not Latin, and that was a lot of people, to be able to read his work.
