Hi there! The answer is 35 cm^2

The easiest way to find the area of this figure, is to split it up into two parts.

1. The square, which has an area of

length \: * width

5 \: cm \: * 5 \: cm \: = 25 \: {cm}^(2)

2. The triangle, which has an area of

0.5 * base \: * height

0.5 * 5 \: cm \: * 4 \: cm \: = 10 \: {cm}^(2)

Finally we add up these two answers and we find that the area of the figure is 10 cm^2 + 25 cm^2 = 35 cm^2.

Find the area of the square first
Area = Length x Width
Area = 5 x 5
Area = 25

Now find the area of the triangle
Area = 1/2(Height x Base)
Area = 1/2(4 x 5)
Area = 1/2(20)
Area = 10

Now add area
25 + 10 = 35
35 cm
^(2) is your answer
