Throughout the past two hundred years, many Canadians have been concerned by the possibility of the United States coming to dominate, in an economic fashion, the nation of Canada. Many Canadians were concerned that U.S. involvement in Canadian industry would serve to rob Canada of its own economic independence, place Canada in a position where it relied largely upon U.S. industries for financial support and power, and convert Canada toward a decidedly American manner of economic thinking and, in turn, sabotage the nation's more socialistic financial policies.
