The graph shows the pretrial process for a criminal court case, that starts with a crime being committed, after there is an arrest and booking. The third step is the initial appearance where the defendant appears before the judge, normally within a few hours of the arrest. The fourth step is the preliminary hearing, in which it is stated whether there is enough evidence against the defendant to require a trial. After that, it comes the grand jury and indictment, where a grand jury presents an indictment, that will state that based on the evidence presented, there is probable cause to believe that a crime has been committed by the defendant. Lastly, it comes the arraignment, which consists in a formal reading of a criminal charging document in the presence of the defendant.
