Aircraft carriers were important to winning war for the pacific because they were heavily armed warships to numerous support crafts, such as fuel ships and troop landing boats. The aircraft carriers also were ships that has the purpose of bringing airplanes to closer battle areas. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

With the invention of the aircraft carrier it made it become an important part of the navy of a country, also somewhat fearsome. The aircraft carriers allowed planes to take off and land in any part of the ocean, they could also attack other warships. During the Pacific War Doolittle showed that he attacked Japan with B5 bombers that could take off from aircraft carriers.
