rememember, you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

also, remember that
\sqrt{(a)/(b)}=(√(a))/(√(b))

so
assuming you mean
x^2=(16)/(49)
square root both sides

x=\sqrt{(16)/(49)}

x=(√(16))/(√(49))

x=(4)/(7)

x^2= 16/49
Take the square root of x, 16, and 49

x^2= x * x
16= 4 * 4
49= 7 * 7

x= 4/7

ANSWER: 4/7

Hope this helps! :)
