Malaria is a disease caused by the Plasmodium parasite (which is a protozoan). These include P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae. The female Anopheles mosquito transmits the parasite since it feeds on the animal blood for the nourishment of its eggs. The parasites destroy the red blood cells in the blood.
Symptoms of the disease include; excessive sweating, fever, headaches, vomiting, shivering, occasional seizures. In severe cases, symptoms will include impaired consciousness, prostration, convulsions, and clinical jaundice.
