Hi there!

The standard form of a quadratic equation is

f(x) = a {x}^(2) + bx + c

So in this case, when working out the parentheses, we'd get the following:

f(x) = 4( {x - 1)}^(2) - 8

f(x) = 4(x - 1)(x - 1) - 8

f(x) = 4( {x}^(2) - 2x + 1) - 8

f(x) = 4 {x}^(2) - 8x + 4 - 8

f(x) = 4 {x}^(2) - 8x - 4
