In Europe, feudalism first began in Western Europe - France, in particular - in the 9th century. Many of the core ideas of feudalism were taken from the Germanic and, moreover, the Roman traditions and then implemented in France over the course of the 9th and 10th centuries, from which it spread throughout much of Western Europe until its eventual demise over the course of the 14th and 15th centuries.
