The Missouri compromise maintained a balance power between slave states. It was passed by the congress in 1820. It admitted Missouri as a slave state. It was then replaced by the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854.

The Missouri Compromise was an agreement made to keep the balance of slave and free states equal. Missouri was added as a slave state and Maine added as a free state in 1821.
