Uncle Eddie asked McKenna and Lara to order 54 new wheels for the 21 skateboards and bicycles in his repair shop. How many bicycles and how many skateboards are in uncle eddies shop? To solve this problem you need to find the values of two different variables and represent two related conditions in the situation. What are the variables whose values you need to find

Uncle Eddie has 21 skateboards, 84 wheels. That means he has 33 bikes, 16.5 wheels.

Answer:

There are 6 skateboards and 15 bicycles.

Explanation:

Consider the provided information.

Let x is the number of skateboards and y is the number of bicycles in his repair shop.

Uncle Eddie asked McKenna and Lara to order 54 new wheels for the 21 skateboards and bicycles in his repair shop.

There are 21 skateboards and bicycles in his repair shop.

x+y=21

x=21-y......(1)

Each skateboard has 4 wheels, for x skateboards he needs 4x wheels, each bicycle has 2 wheels, for y bicycles he needs 2y wheels. In total there should be ordered 54 wheels, so

4x+2y=54

Substitute the value of x in above equation.

4(21-y)+2y=54

84-4y+2y=54

-2y=54-84

y=15

Substitute the value of y in equation 1.

x=21-15

x=6

Hence, there are 6 skateboards and 15 bicycles.
