The solution is basic.
pH scale can be used to find out how acidic or basic a solution is .
When pH = 7 the solution is neutral,
pH < 7 solution is acidic
pH > 7 solution is neutral
Since the pH of solution is 8.40 then value is more than 7 therefore baking Soda and water is basic.
