A car leaves Macomb traveling south toward Carbondale at the average rate of 52 mph. At the same time, another car leaves Springfield traveling north toward Chicago at the average rate of 60 mph. If they are both traveling the same high way, but going different directions, how long will it take them to meet if the cities are 252 miles apart?

according to velocity formulas the car going to south is -52mph and the car toward to 60mph is positive so we add them together = 8mph*time=252miles
t=13.5 hours.
hope this loves.

Answer:

T=2.25

2 hours and 15 minutes

Explanation:

Speed x Time = Distance

60 mph

52 mph

T = time, solve for Time

60t + 52t = 252

60 x 2.25 = 135 52 x 2.25= 117

135 + 117 = 252

2.25 = 25 in minutes is 15 when converted on a scale.

15 minutes = 25

30 minutes =50

45 minutes = 75 etc.

Side note I-pathways didn't make this easy on me
