We need to create an equation for this. Let x be the number we want to find. Then 1/2x + 16 = 2/3x - 4 Multiplying both sides by the common denominator 6, we have 3x + 96 = 4x - 24 x = 120 Inserting 120 into the equation to check, we have 1/2 (120) + 16 = 2/3 (120) - 4 76 = 76
