The running track behind the local gym is 34 mile long. The track and field team ran 2 23 laps around the track. How many miles did the team run?

You probably meant that the team ran
2 (2)/(3) laps around the track.

Length of running track = 34 miles.
Since the team ran
2 (2)/(3) times around the track, in order to find the total number of miles we multiply the length of track by
2 (2)/(3).

Therefore, total number of miles run by team will be equal to:

2 (2)/(3)*34 \\ \\ = (8)/(3)*34 \\ \\ = 91

Rounding of to nearest mile, the team ran 91 miles around the track.
